Abstract
The transmission property of the muffler, including the reflection coefficient and the transmission loss, is independent with the boundary conditions. The finite element method (FEM) can be used to calculate the reflection and transmission wave with the condition of pure traveling wave at the output port, the reflection coefficient and the transmission loss can then be calculated comparing with the incident wave. The quantitative relationship between the transmission Matrix and the reflection coefficient and the transmission loss is established here and the transmission Matrix of the muffler is calculated according to such relationship.
