915 - Comparison between different methods of characterizing elastic layers
Simón F., Anthony D.
Abstract
New legislation all over Europe makes the prediction of transmission level of impact sounds of flooring very necessary. This is why analytical models have become a current very important active subject of research. In general, these models use the mechanical properties of the elastic layer as these can predict the dynamic stiffness or loss factors. Also, elastic layer products based on polymeric foams have lately become more prevalent. The measurement of the mechanical properties of these materials presents problems such as a double resonance peak in the impact spectrum response. As a consequence the usual methods are difficult to apply to such samples and this problem must be overcome. In this work a comparison is presented of a number of different procedures of measuring mechanical properties of this type of materials to highlight the strengths and weakness of each method.
