Abstract
Earthquake has been an important damage for a long time that tens of thousands of people died and billions of dollors in property damage have been lost as a result of earthquake. Preserving civil structures such as buildings and bridges against this natural event could help the human and structural survivability. The main current of structural technology is about to change from conventional earthquake-resistant structures which are designed 'not to collapse even under the strongest earthquake' to structural controlled structures which are intended 'to suppress the vibration itself.'In this paper varius methods of structural control including passive , active, semiactive, hybrid and coupled buildings and some new methods such as “active regenerative force actuation” and ”active wireless sensing unit” that proposed recently by some researchers have been reviewed .Varius kinds of structural control devices that implemented theoretically or practically in each method have been introduced briefly.
