Sahasrabudhe A.
Abstract
Traffic noise has been found to be one of the major causes of noise pollution in the modern era. The number of vehicles in all major towns and cities have been increasing at a rapid rate resulting in very high noise levels. Sound level exposure affects the auditory and non auditory health and limits the working hours and efficiency of people. This has led to stringent regulations being imposed by the law enforcing agencies. The present study deals with measurement of traffic speed, traffic volume and noise levels at important traffic junctions in the city of Guwahati in India. Correlation between traffic speed, traffic volume and noise levels has been established and an empirical formula derived for determining the noise level based on traffic speed and volume.
