Abstract
The team of researchers at the Aerospace Sciences Department “Elie Carafoli” in UPB is continuing its international co-operation programme with the new HARPER project initiative. The main directions of the new initiative are presented for the audience in Vienna in order to establish possible co-operation links and interests in aeroacoustics. HARPER is a result of the recent R&TD by local Romanian grants and an extension of the eligible European FP6 proposal HESPERIDES for new types of aeroacoustic wind tunnels as tools for advanced experimental aeroacoustics. Far more extended than a specific noise research facility, the proposed platform is intended to exploit the solar energy driven system for extended environmental studies, up to the hydrogen production and storage and electricity production. The project is intended for a EC funded Structural Programme support in Romania with implication of an international consortium, already started at a preliminary level. The proposal is open for new participants and will be finalised in the form of a conveniently large research laboratory infrastructure in Bucharest, directed by a research SME to develop a series of future research tasks in aeroacoustics. One of the main applications is in investigations on noise produced by air-compressors of aircraft turbofan engines. Fluid-solid interaction of the trailing disturbances, induced by the successive rows of blade grids, both moving and standing, and the resulting noise generation will be studied and spectral analyse of the recordings for repeated phenomena of resonance around similar nodal frequencies for experimental data developed. A comparison with similar observations performed in Europe and US will be advanced. The unique performance of the zero-level of driving noise in the SETTLER wind tunnel is expected to allow a steep progress in the area of fundamental and technological research on noise suppression. International partners are invited to the HARPER programme.
