Abstract
In this paper, a numerical solution scheme based on the method of finite elements has been developed to analyze the deformations and potentials of piezoelectric materials subjected to external mechanical/electrical loadings ,either concentrated or distributed. A 3D element is chosen to model piezoelectric materials. Finite element equations are derived and then implemented in a computer program to simulate the static performance of flexible structures bonded/embedded with piezoelectric actuators and sensors. The case studies chosen for evaluation of this numerical scheme are representative of real piezoceramic materials. Results are found to be in excellent agreement with the results of other standard FEM software packages such as ANSYS.
