213 - Theoretical and experimental research on the control of vibration of overhead line conductors

Abstract
The problem of control of vibration of overhead line conductors to laminar wind transverse induced vibrations (Karman effect) has been studied for many years due to phenomena consequences on these structures lifetime and service. For mitigation of the vibration level of overhead line conductors, a good choice of the conductor type and the presence. We have defined the cable (conductor) model by using our hypothesis that detaches the cable model of the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, where the viscous damping of the cable is taken into account. We emphasize the property of substitution of the Euler-Bernoulli beam model, for any beam, by our conductor model, for sufficient high frequencies. The analytical expression of the free vibration modes and the resonance frequencies equation for the conductor with clamped extremities has produced. The experimental research is performed on the stand endowed with the overhead conductor, alone or with choice Stockbridge dampers mounted on the extremities zone of the conductor. The resonance frequencies and vibration modes are identified experimentally on the choice conductor of the stand, alone or with Stockbridge dampers. The influence of the concentrated harmonic force, applied on the middle of the conductor, is analyzed. In this reason is determined the dynamic bending strain of the conductor at the clamped extremities, versus frequencies, in the domain of interest. The method of aeolian vibration control is based also on the energy balance principle that takes into account the wind energy input, produced by concentrated force applied on the middle of the conductor, the energy dissipated by the conductor with viscous self damping properties and the energy dissipated by the Stockbridge dampers which are used for mitigation the vibration level of overhead line conductors. Any results are performed by finite element method that confirm or complete the experimental studies.
